Monpazier’s protected buildings

A complete register of the individual PA notices and area-protection records, preserving the distinction between a historic building, its legal record and a modern address.

Monpazier’s municipality and Bastideum report 32 protected buildings or monuments. The Ministry of Culture’s POP database organises the evidence differently: 30 individual Monument Historique records with PA references, numbered PA00082653 to PA00082682, and two SPR records for protected urban areas. A building count, an individual legal notice and an area designation are not interchangeable.

Why the figures must stay separate
A PA number is an individual monument notice; an SPR record concerns protection across an area; local sources count protected buildings or constructions. No published primary source identified here explicitly reconciles the local total of 32 buildings with 30 PA notices and two SPR records. Some PA notices cover only selected façades, galleries, roofs, ground or a tower, and historic parcels do not always map cleanly to modern addresses.

Complete set of 30 PA monument notices

The English scope descriptions below explain the official notices concisely. Each PA reference opens the legally authoritative wording and any later amendments. Because historic parcel references do not always correspond neatly to modern street numbers, the legal record is a safer identifier than a guessed doorway.

Two separate area-protection records

POP also lists two Site patrimonial remarquable (SPR) records for Monpazier. These concern planning protection across an urban area, so they describe the setting in which many buildings stand rather than two additional buildings.

SPR7500068

Secteur sauvegardé, created 9 April 1990. This is an area-protection record, not an individual monument notice.

SPR7500067

Zone de protection du patrimoine architectural, urbain et paysager (ZPPAUP), dated 6 November 1995. This too concerns an area rather than one building.

How to read the register

Classification and registration are not construction dates

A protection granted in 1904, 1936, 1961 or 1962 does not mean the structure was built in that year. Construction, alteration and legal protection are separate events.

A protected house may be only partly protected

Many Place des Cornières entries specify the façade, gallery, roof or ground beneath the gallery. The convenient phrase “listed house” can conceal that legal precision.

Historic parcels are not modern postal addresses

Matching a cadastral reference to a numbered doorway requires evidence. A modern door number is given only when it can be matched securely to the historic parcel.

Using the register carefully

The table contains all 30 current PA notices, but each linked POP record remains authoritative. A modern address is stated only when the legal record, cadastral location and visible building align securely; where they do not, the historic parcel is the honest identifier.
